APAC ANNOUNCES SCRIPTS AND AUDITIONS FOR 14TH ORIGINAL PLAY FESTIVAL

Aloha Performing Arts Company has completed the script selection process for its 14th annual Original Play Festival. From a field of 25 entries from all over the country, five plays were chosen and will be given staged readings August 15-18, at a venue to be announced. A total of 34 roles will be cast at festival auditions Sunday July 8 at 2:30 p.m. and Monday July 9 at 6:30 p.m. at the APAC Loft in Kainaliu.

Original Play Festival XIV will be staged Wednesday through Saturday, August 15-18, with all performances beginning at 7:30 p.m. The festival kicks off Wednesday with "Assault," by Oahu playwright Anthony Michael Oliver and directed by Molly McGivern. In this mystery, which has 4 male and 3 female roles, an apparently unprovoked assault at a marina results in an arrest and a trial which result in changes in the lives of members of an affluent New York community.

APAC SEEKS CAST FOR "NOISES OFF"

Aloha Performing Arts Company is seeking nine actors with good British accents for its next production, the hilarious farce "Noises Off" by Michael Frayn, directed by Jerry Tracy. Auditions will be held at the APAC loft in Kainaliu on Monday and Tuesday, April 16 and 17, at 6:30 p.m. Those auditioning should be ready to read from the script with an English accent. Rehearsal will begin in late April and performances will be at the Aloha Theatre June 8-24. APAC's loft is on the second floor of the old Ben Franklin building, across the street from Oshima's and Kimura's in old Kainaliu town. Parking is scarce, so those auditioning are encouraged to park on the street or in the public lot just north of the building.

AUDITIONS FOR "URINETOWN"

Aloha Performing Arts Company will hold auditions for "Urinetown, the Musical" by Mark Hollman and Greg Kotis on Sunday December 17 at 2:30 p.m. and Monday December 18 at 6:30 p.m. at the APAC loft in Kainaliu, on the second floor of the building containing Creative Costumes. Auditions are being held early so singers can get a head start on learning the complex music. Some rehearsals will be held in late January and early February, and a full rehearsal schedule will begin in mid February. The show will be performed at the Aloha Theatre April 6-29, 2007.

AUDITIONS ANNOUNCED FOR "HONK, JR."

Auditions will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, August 21 and 22 for the Aloha Performing Arts Company's production of the musical comedy "Honk, Jr." by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe. This show is a modern musical retelling of the Ugly Duckling story, and requires a cast of 20-30 people, all under the age of 18. Rehearsals will begin August 24, and will generally be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays. The show will be performed at the Aloha Theatre in Kainaliu Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, October 6 though 22.

APAC ANNOUNCES SCRIPTS AND AUDITIONS FOR OPF XIII

Aloha Performing Arts Company recently completed the script selection process for its 13th annual Original Play Festival. Out of a field of 18 entries, 6 scripts were chosen and will be given staged readings at the Aloha Theatre in August. Over 70 roles will be cast at festival auditions July 10 and 11 at 6:30 at APAC's loft in Kainaliu.

SUPPORTING CAST SOUGHT FOR "ROMEO AND JULIET"

Aloha Performing Arts Company will hold auditions for supporting roles for its June production of William Shakespeare's "The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet" Saturday, April 15 at 2:30 p.m. at the Aloha Theatre. The title roles were cast in January, and will be played by Anthony Agresti and Sarah Weiner, who will be on hand at the auditions to read with other prospective cast members.

Roles which will be cast include Lord and Lady Montague, Benvolio, Abram, Balthasar, Lord and Lady Capulet, the Nurse, Tybalt, Petruchio, Sampson, Gregory, Peter, Escalus, Paris, Mercutio, Friar Lawrence, Friar John, the Apothecary, and various other attendants and citizens.

Those auditioning should prepare a 1-2 minute speech from any Shakespeare play or sonnet. Memorization is not required, but familiarity will be appreciated. Auditionees will also be asked to read from the script. No experience is required and newcomers are encouraged to audition. Rehearsals will begin April 17, and will be held 7-10 p.m. Monday through Thursday through May 4. Beginning the week of May 8, the schedule will expand to include Saturdays, 2-5 p.m.

APAC AUDITIONS FOR "STEEL MAGNOLIAS"

The Aloha Performing Arts Company (APAC) will hold auditions for its upcoming production of playwright Robert Harling’s award winning comedy “Steel Magnolias” on February 20 and 21st. Director Sue Boyum will begin auditions promptly at 6:30pm at the APAC loft.
“Steel Magnolias” is set in Truvy’s Beauty Shop in the 1980’s and is the story of six Southern women who share their personal triumphs, tragedies, beauty tips, recipes and scandalous gossip! The center of the group is a bride with problems and her mother who looks to her friends for strength and laughter as she battles her deepest fears concerning her daughter. It has wonderful, strong parts for six talented actresses.

The characters are:

Truvy: Age 35 plus. Truvy owns the Beauty Shop, a converted garage alongside her house in Chinquapin, Louisiana. Anyone who is “anybody” has her hair done at “Truvy’s”. She's vivacious, outgoing, caring and has a great sense of humor. Ideally, she would be portrayed by someone who knows how to “do” hair.

APAC AUDITIONS FOR "ROMEO AND JULIET"

of William Shakespeare's "The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet" on Saturday
January 21, at 6 p.m. at the APAC loft in Kainaliu. This casting call is
for the roles of the star crossed lovers "Romeo" and "Juliet" only.
Auditions for the remainder of the cast will be announced later. The show
will be the final production of APAC's current season, taking the Aloha
Theatre stage in June, with direction by Jerry Tracy.

Auditions will begin promptly at 6:00 p.m., and prospective Romeos and
Juliets are asked to prepare a one to two minute speech from any Shakespeare play. Memorization is not required, but familiarity will be appreciated. Each auditionee must to be prepared to stay for the entire audition session, which will run two hours or less.

The APAC Loft is located in Kainaliu, on the second floor of the building
directly across the street from Paradise Found, above and behind Loke's
Island Memories. Those attending auditions should park on the street or in

APAC HOLDS AUDITIONS FOR ''JOSEPH''

Auditions for Andrew Lloyd Webber's pop rock musical JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT, the next production of Aloha Performing Arts Company, will be held on Monday and Tuesday, November 28 and 29, at the APAC Loft in Kainaliu, on the second floor of the building directly across the street from Paradise Found, above and behind Loke's Island Memories. Prospective cast members need only attend on one of the nights, and should park on the street or in the public lot just north of the building. Children may audition at 6:30 p.m. and teens and adults at 7:30 p.m.

APAC AUDITIONS FOR ROCKY HORROR SHOW

Aloha Performing Arts Company will hold open auditions for volunteer performers for the classic cult rock and roll musical, Richard O'Brien's THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW on Sunday and Monday, August 21 and 22 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the APAC Loft in Kainaliu, which is on the second floor of the building housing Ohana Kenpo and Electric Kayaks. Those attending should dress comfortably, park on the street or in the public lot just north of the building and walk up the lane on the south side of the building to the entrance in the rear. Auditionees will be seen in small groups on a first come, first served basis.
