APAC OFFERS CHILDREN'S SUMMER PRODUCTION WORKSHOP

Aloha Performing Arts Company will offer a week long summer production workshop for 8-12 year olds July 14 through 19, from 10;00 a.m. til 4;00 p.m. The week's work will culminate in a free public performance at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday July 19 at the Aloha Theatre. This summer's production will be "From the Far East to the Old West," and will be directed by APAC newcomer Kathleen Turner, who has been director of the SKEA art camp. She holds a degree in theater arts from Portland State University, and will teach at Honaunau Elementary School this coming school year. The production will consist of two scripts by Aaron Shepard: "Savitri, a Tale of Ancient India," and "The Legend of Lightning Larry." In the first script, the princess Savitri must use all her wit and will to save her husband from the god of death. The second playlet features a cowboy with a huge smile, a hankering for lemondade, and a gun that shoots bolts of light. The show will also contain some musical performance pieces. Ms. Turner will be assisted by members of Aloha Teen Theatre.

The workshop will meet each day, 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Morning sessions will be at APAC's loft in Kainaliu, and afternoon sessions will be at the Aloha Theatre. Tuition, which includes all materials required for the workshop, is $175 per student, and scholarships are available. Early dropoff at 8:00 a.m. may be offered for an additional fee, if there is sufficient demand. Students will need to bring a lunch, and a mid-afternoon snack will be provided. The workshop offers over thirty hours of instruction in the various aspects of production. Each student is guaranteed a speaking role, and will also assist with technical preparations. Enrollment is limited to 20 participants. Registration forms are available online at apachawaii.org. A deposit is required to hold a spot. For more information, call 322-9924.
