APAC HOLDS AUDITIONS FOR "ANNIE GET YOUR GUN"

"There's no business like show business," and Aloha Performing Arts Company is out to prove it, by producing the Broadway musical that made the phrase a theatrical mantra. Auditions for Irving Berlin's immortal "Annie Get Your Gun" will be held Saturday December 15 at 2:30 p.m. and Sunday December 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the APAC loft in Kainaliu. There are plenty of roles available for volunteer performers of all ages, including: Annie Oakley, the sharp-shooting title character; Frank Butler, the sharp-shooting hero; Buffalo Bill; Chief Sitting Bull; Pawnee Bill; Jessie, Annie's little sister, age 14; Nellie, Annie's other little sister, age 12; Little Jake, Annie's little brother, age 10; Dolly Tate, an over the hill entertainer; Tommy Keeler, a handsome young man; Winnie Tate, his girlfriend, age 17; various other supporting roles, and an ensemble of cowboys, Native Americans, kings and queens, debutantes, socialites, waiters, messengers, porters, and stage hands.

"Annie Get Your Gun" may have a few rehearsals before year's end, and will begin regular rehearsals in 2008, on four weeknights and one weekend afternoon per week. The show will be presented at the Aloha Theatre in Kainaliu February 15 through March 8. Those auditioning will be seen in small groups, in order of arrival, and should be prepared to read from the script, learn a short movement routine, and sing a few bars of one of the following songs: "There's No Business Like Show Business," "Doin' What Comes Natur'lly," or another Irving Berlin tune, "White Christmas." Music, lyrics, and accompanist will be provided. Scripts and scores will be available for onsite perusal at the loft Monday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A limited number of materials will be available for checkout for a $10 deposit. Those under age 18 may audition only with parent or guardian consent. Consent forms and audition forms are available online at www.apachawaii.org. Arriving with forms already filled out will insure a smoother, more efficient audition. No previous performing experience is required, and newcomers are welcome.

The casting team for "Annie Get Your Gun" inlcudes Jerry Tracy, director; Joel Gimpel, music director; Dick Gray, choral director; Jill Collier, choreographer; and Lee Vinson, assistant director. In addition to performing roles, many crew positions are also available. For more information, call the APAC office at 322-9924.
