APAC OFFERS PERFORMING ARTS CLASSES
Aloha Performing Arts Company will offer seven classes in the new year, continuing its ongoing program of performing arts education. All instruction will take place at the APAC Loft in Kainaliu, on the second floor of the building containing Creative Costumes, directly across the street from Paradise Found.
Tuesdays will feature two classes. First, Jerry Tracy will continue his "Tuesday Trouper" theatre skills class for 8-12 year olds from 3:15 to 5:15, January 16 through March 6. Tuition is $100. From 5:15 to 6:30 p.m., Amma Maxwell will offer Mixed Dance Level 2, for those with previous dance experience. This class begins January 9 and will be ongoing, with tuition set at $75 for 8 classes.
Wednesday will feature a triple bill of classes. Beginning January 10, Jillian Collier will teach Creative Minds and Bodies, a movement and expression class for 4-7 year olds. This ongoing class will be offered from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m., if enough children are pre-registered. Tuition will be $40 per month. From 4:00 to 5:30, Youth of APAC, or YAPAC, will continue its self-motivated theatre production class, for those in 6th grade or above. To be eligible for this class, students must have previous APAC experience, or arrange an interview. Tuition is $100 per semester. Student initiated fundraising will help cover production costs. From 6:30 to 9:00 on Wednesday evenings, from January 17 through February 14, popular performance artist and theatre skills instructor Sierra Faith will offer Intermediate/Advanced Acting, with a $75 tuition. This class is for actors with some experience and a desire to hone their craftsmanship.
On Saturday mornings 9:30 to noon, January 13 through February 3, Ms. Faith will offer Basic Acting, for a tuition of $75. In this intensive four week session, students will open a tool kit of foundational acting skills, focusing on script breakdown, beats, objectives, and character development. All levels welcome.
On Saturday January 27, Sierra will offer a special one day only Improvisational Comedy Class, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuition is $35. Students will have a crash course in this enjoyable art form as taught by the worldwide TheaterSports organization. Games like those seen on "Whose Line is it Anyway" will be taught. This experience is about staying open-hearted, relational, playful, and available to the moment. The class is perfect for actors who want to push the envelope, public speakers, and civilians who want to loosen up and experience more spontaneous joy.
To register for a class, request an interview, or for more information, call Sam at the APAC office, Monday through Thursday between 9 and 5, at 322-9924.
