APAC OFFERS "POEMPLAY" WORKSHOP
Aloha Performing Arts Company is offering a winter vacation theatre production workshop for children ages 8-12, entitled "PoemPlay." Dates are December 27, 28, and 29, 2006, and January 3, 4, 5, and 6, 2007. Weekday hours are 10:00 a.m. til 4:00 p.m., with tuition at $175. Early weekday dropoff at 8:00 a.m. is available for $30 more per student. Saturday, January 6 will be performance day. The work the students have done during the workshop will be showcased in a free public presentation at the Aloha Theatre at noon. Saturday's hours for all students are 10:00 a.m. til 2:00 p.m., allowing time for dress rehearsal, striking the show and celebrating completion.
"PoemPlay" will focus on reading, writing, and interpreting poetry. Poems will serve as scripts for performance pieces. Students are invited to bring a favorite poem by the second day of the workshop for possible inclusion in the show. In addition, students will compose Haiku poems, which they will read aloud as part of the show. Students will also assist with technical preparations for the show, including creation of costumes, props, and sets. Tuition includes all materials needed for the workshop, a PoemPlay tee shirt, and an afternoon snack. Each student will need to bring a lunch each day.
Jerry Tracy will be the primary instructor, with Jillian Collier as producer and Sam Valenti as registrar and office coordinator. Assistants include teens BriAnna Johnson, Katelyn Howard, Sandra Burck, Caitie Johnson, and Jaquelynn Collier. Weekday dropoff is at APAC's loft in Kainaliu, where morning instruction and lunch will take place. Afternoon instruction, snack break, and pickup will be at the Aloha Theatre. Saturday January 6, show day, morning dropoff will be at the theatre, and afternoon pickup at the loft. Prompt dropoff and pickup will be greatly appreciated. Enrollment is limited to 20 students, so early registration by phone is requested. For more information or to sign a student up, call Sam at the APAC office at 322-9924.
