APAC HOLDS AUDITIONS FOR "THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW"

Aloha Performing Arts Company will hold open auditions for Richard O'Brien's cult classic rock musical "The Rocky Horror Show" at the Aloha Theatre in Kainaliu.
• Sunday August 15 at 2:30 p.m.
• Monday August 16 at 6:30 p.m.
Seventeen volunteer singer/dancer/actors are sought for this production, which will be presented in a special limited engagement for four performances only: October 28, 29, 30, and 31. Some crew positions are available also. Rehearsals are tentatively scheduled for August 22-27, September 1- 3,11, 18, 25, October 11-13, 17-21, 23, 25, 26, and 27. Generally, weekday rehearsals are 6:30-9:30 p.m. and weekend rehearsals are afternoons, specific times to be arranged.

All roles are open, and newcomers are encouraged to audition. All performers must be comfortable with their bodies and willing to dress scantily.
Characters are:
• Dr. Frank N. Furter, a cross dressing mad scientist from the planet of Transsexual in the galaxy of Transylvania, with good moves and a belting rock and roll voice of considerable range;
• Riff Raff, a mysterious castle butler with a very strong tenor voice (high B), and an ability to sing loud "screeching" rock and roll riffs;
• Magenta, a sensuous castle domestic who is Riff Raff's sister and incestuous partner, strong alto, "belty" rock voice (low B to high E flat);
• Columbia, a tap-dancing castle groupie, strong alto "belt" voice, with ability to hold harmonies;
• Rocky, Frank's muscular, handsome creation, strong, supported tenor voice (high A);
• Eddie, a former juvenile delinquent, tattoos and sizable girth a plus, with very strong tenor rock voice (high F#) and "belting" and "wailing" ability;
• Brad, a clean-cut, wholesome young man, strong tenor voice (high G) and ability to sing both lyrically and with strong rock and roll voice;
• Janet, Brad's sweet fiancee, a naive, pretty ingenue, with a strong lyrical voice, also able to belt rock and roll, mostly second soprano range with an occasional high F;
• Dr. Scott, a rumpled scientist, high school tutor of Brad and Janet, strong mid range voice;
• Narrator, male or female, strong speaking voice, minimal singing and dancing;
• Six Phantoms. The Phantoms are a singing, dancing, acting chorus of uninhibited castle slaves of various body types, ages, and genders. They will also serve as understudies and must have strong rock and roll voices, high energy, agile bodies, and the ability to hold harmonies. Ideally, this group will contain all voice ranges.

"The Rocky Horror Show" is a unique rock musical, in that it involves audience participation throughout. On the way to visit an old college professor, two young kids run into tire trouble and seek help at the castle of Dr. Frank N. Furter, who is in the midst of one of his maniacal experiments. What follows is a night of gothic fun and debauchery with the sweet transvestite and his motley crew of misfits. Jerry Tracy will direct, assisted by Robin O'Hara, Sharon Cannon will be music director, Sue Boyum is choral director, and Lee Vinson will choreograph.

Registration will begin 30 minutes prior to start time, and those auditioning will be seen in small groups in order of arrival. Comfortable clothing and closed shoes are recommended. Auditions will consist of reading from the script, learning a short movement routine, and singing a few bars of "The Star Spangled Banner," or a few bars of one of the songs from the show. Scripts are available for on site perusal at the APAC business office in the Aloha Theatre, Monday through Thursday from 10:00 a.m. til 4:00 p.m. The directors hope to be able to cast the show entirely with adults. Those under age 18 may audition only with a signed parental/guardian consent form. Audition forms and consent forms are available online at www.apachawaii.org.
