APAC ANNOUNCES ''ROCKY HORROR SHOW'' CAST
Casting is complete and rehearsal is underway for Aloha Performing Arts Company's next production, Richard O'Brien's cult classic rock and roll musical THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW. The lead role of the "Sweet Transvestite" Frank 'N Furter will be played by Shell Vacations promotions director and Ironman triathlete Chris Bellah. His alien sidekick Riff Raff is Fairfield Resorts sales manager Mark Pollard, and Magenta, Riff Raff's sister, is Kona Music Society teen chorus director Sue Boyum. Drama teacher and skills trainer Molly McGivern, seen recently as the belly dancing Bianca in OTHELLO, plays Janet Weiss, the ingénue. Her beau, the nerdy Brad Majors, is played by computer technician Sam Valenti. Tap dancing Columbia is local bartender Ruby Rose Savarese, and the Narrator is roofer/surfer/drummer Keo Bloss. Waimea resident Michael Bray plays the wheelchair bound Dr. Scott, and his nephew Eddie is played by Big Island Tattoo artist Rockwood. Rocky, Frank 'N Furter's "creation," is played by Hawaii Healing Ohana co-owner Michael Russo. An omnipresent chorus of "phantoms" consists of Sara Beery, Joyce Clarke, Robyn Reck Duquesne, Andy Herrmann, Amazing Jaeger, Alison Reeves, and Janemarie Singer.
Music director Joel Gimpel leads a live rock band consisting of Randy Ressler, Sharon "Boom-Boom" Cannon, Judy Olson, and Kilgore Trout. Director is Jerry Tracy, choreographer is Jillian Rietow, and choral director is Dick Gray. Designers are Ra, set; Sue Boyum, costumes; Cathy Riehle, lighting; Lyal Lindesmith, sound; Toni Reynolds, props; Jeffrey Werle, makeup, and Joanie Carey, hair. Hair and makeup assistants are being provided by Big Island Beauty College. Producers are Jennifer York and Jefferson Gourley, assistant director is Robin O'Hara, technical director is Trish Gura, stage manager is John Powell, and house manager is Desiree Marquardt.
THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW is a live stage production, not accompanied by the movie. It contains sexual innuendo, profanity, and partial nudity, and therefore is recommended for mature audiences. The material is not considered by APAC to be suitable for children under the age of 13. Performances will be at the Aloha Theatre in Kainaliu, October 7 through 31.
Friday shows are at 7:30 p.m. and all tickets are $13.00. Saturday performances are also at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees are at 2:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday ticket prices are $18.00 regular admission and $15.00 for senior citizens and students over age 13 with school ID. A special Halloween showing on Monday October 31 at 7:30 p.m. will feature a costume contest at intermission and is being offered for a $13 ticket price. Reserved seats are available for any performance, by phone only, for $30. Tickets are available at Paradise Found Kainaliu, Mele Kai Music, Kailua Candy Company, at the box office beginning one hour prior to curtain, and by phone at 322-1648.
Aloha Performing Arts Company's production of THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW is supported in part by the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts through appropriations from the Legislature of the State of Hawaii and by the National Endowment for the Arts.
