Aloha Performing Arts Company will hold open auditions for volunteer performers for the classic cult rock and roll musical, Richard O'Brien's THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW on Sunday and Monday, August 21 and 22 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the APAC Loft in Kainaliu, which is on the second floor of the building housing Ohana Kenpo and Electric Kayaks. Those attending should dress comfortably, park on the street or in the public lot just north of the building and walk up the lane on the south side of the building to the entrance in the rear. Auditionees will be seen in small groups on a first come, first served basis.
Roles available are: Usherette/Magenta, an alien house servant, pop rock soprano, 20's to 40's; Brad Majors, an all American guy, tenor, 20's; Janet Weiss, Brad's innocent fiancee, pop rock soprano, 20's; Narrator, a stuffy professor type, baritone, 30's to 60's; Riff Raff, an alien butler, tenor, 30's to 40's; Columbia, an alien tap dancing maid, pop rock soprano, 20's to 30's; Frank 'N' Furter, an alien transvestite scientist, tenor, 30's to 40's; Rocky, a muscular young man, tenor, 18 to 35; Eddie, a greasy biker thug, tenor, 20's to 40's; Dr. Scott, a disabled Earthling scientist, baritone, 40's to 60's; and Phantoms, a small corps of high energy singer/actor/dancers who will serve as chorus, extras, stage crew, and understudies, all adult ages, sizes, and vocal ranges.
Those auditioning will be asked to learn a simple dance routine, read from the script, and sing a small portion of one of the following songs: The Time Warp, Touch-a Touch-a Touch Me, You Are So Beautiful, or Joy to the World (Jeremiah Was a Bullfrog). No other songs will be allowed. After completing the process, auditionees are free to go. It is not necessary to attend both nights of auditions; performers will be allowed to audition on one evening only. A final callback audition, by invitation only, is tentatively scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday August 25. Scripts and music will be available for onsite perusal beginning one hour before each audition, or by appointment.
The show includes sexual innuendo, mild profanity, and partial nudity. Therefore, those under age 18 may audition only with a signed parental consent waiver available at auditions or on APAC's website, www.apachawaii.org. Parental Consent Form
THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW will be presented at the Aloha Theatre October 7-31, 2005. Rehearsals will begin August 27, and will be conducted most weekday evenings 6:30-9:30 and some weekend afternoons 1:00-5:00.
