APAC HOLDS AUDITIONS FOR "GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS"

Aloha Performing Arts Company will hold auditions at the Aloha Theatre in Kainaliu at 6:00 p.m. Sunday, September 27 for four roles in David Mamet's controversial drama "Glengarry Glen Ross." The play won the Laurence Olivier award for best new play in 1983, the Pulitzer Prize for drama in 1984, and in 2005, it won both the Drama Desk Award and the Tony Award for best revival of a play. It was adapted for the screen in 1992, featuring Jack Lemmon, Kevin Spacey, Ed Harris, Alan Arkin, Al Pacino, Jonathan Pryce, and Alec Baldwin. The play shows parts of two days in the lives of four desperate Chicago real estate agents who are prepared to engage in any number of unethical, illegal acts--from lies and flattery to bribery, threats, intimidation, and burglary--to sell undesirable real estate to unwilling prospective buyers.

The roles of Ricky Roma, Shelley Levene, and John Williamson are already filled, so director Jerry Tracy is casting the following characters: James Lingk, a timid, middle-aged man who becomes Roma's latest client. Lingk is easily manipulated and finds Roma highly charismatic. George Aaronow, an aging salesman with low self-esteem who lacks confidence and hope. A follower who lacks the ability to stand on his own. Dave Moss, a big mouthed salesman with big dreams and schemes. Moss resents Williamson, and the big bosses Mitch and Murray, for putting such pressure on him and plans to strike back at them by stealing all their best sales leads and selling them to a competitor. Moss sees Aaranow as a potential accomplice. Baylen, a police detective. He appears in the final scene to investigate the office break-in and interrogate each cast member behind closed doors.

"Glengarry Glen Ross" will be performed at the Aloha Theatre April 23-May 8, 2010. Auditions are being held early because the play is such a strong ensemble piece, and requires extreme intensity from the cast. Actors will meet periodically after casting for readthroughs before full on regular rehearsals begin in March. Auditions will consist of readings from the script, which is available for onsite perusal at the APAC office Monday through Thursday by arrangement with Sam Valenti at 322-9924.
