APAC HOLDS AUDITIONS FOR "NUNSENSE"

Aloha Performing Arts Company is looking for a few good nuns....five, to be exact. The zany musical comedy "Nunsense" is scheduled for an October performance run at the Aloha Theatre in Kainaliu. Auditions for five women to play the Little Sisters of Hoboken will be held at the theatre Monday and Tuesday August 24 and 25, at 6:30 p.m. Registration will begin at 6:00, and those auditioning will be asked to learn a short movement routine, sing from the show, and deliver a memorized 1-3 minute comic monologue. The monologue can be a story, a memory, a joke, an anecdote, or a monologue from a play or other literary source. Comfortable clothing and closed shoes are recommended. Auditionees need attend only one of the evening audition sessions.

Roles available are: Sister Mary Regina, Mother Superior, a soprano, a feisty overweight Sophie Tucker-type who can't resist the spotlight; Sister Mary Hubert, Mistress of the Novices, an alto, the second in command who is always competing with the Mother Superior; Sister Robert Anne, a soprano, a streetwise tough character from Brooklyn, who is a constant source of aggravation for the Mother Superior; Sister Mary Amnesia, a soprano, a sweet nun who lost her memory after a crucifix fell on her head; and Sister Mary Leo, a soprano, the novice of the group, who wants to become the first nun ballerina. A swing understudy will also likely be cast, who could theoretically play any of the nuns.

"Nunsense" is the story of five nuns who must put on a variety show to raise money so they can bury several of their sisters who were accidentally poisoned by the cooking of Sister Julia, Child of God. The show will be directed by Jerry Tracy, with musical direction by Dale Ross, choral direction by Sue Boyum, and choreography by Tiffany Hughes. Performance dates are October 16-31, and rehearsals, which will be held Monday through Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoons, will begin August 31. No experience is required and newcomers are encouraged to audition. For more information, call 322-9924.
