Lessons would be integrating instructor's experience with Orff techniques. Orff is a multidisciplinary approach in which music forms a unity with movement, dance and speech.
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Arts with a minor in Art from California State Northridge University and a CA K-8 multiple subject teaching credential from UC Irvine. Artistic training beyond undergraduate work has been largely "on the job" and through various professional workshops. Although formal training has been mostly in the visual arts, the experience teaching at the Vista Academy of Visual and Performing Arts was filled with incredible opportunities to integrate music, drama, dance, and theater techniques into education and to explore the arts personally. Math and Language Arts infused plays were created collaboratively at grade level and were enjoyed by other schools as well as the public. (To name a few: Charlotte's Web, Mathland, Poetry Alive, and Native American Tribute Ensembles) In the classroom we created many mini-plays and musicals relating to themes we were learning. The ability to facilitate outdoor mural making with children was largely self-taught early in my career and quickly became a passion. Being trained in Orff techniques several years ago brought an expanded musical dimension to my teaching style. At Beaumont School I continued to infuse arts in the classroom and through a variety of after school enrichment workshops.
I look forward to working with the Arts and teaching in Hawaii.
