A Letter from APAC
Aloha Beloved APAC Supporters!
Welcome to our 22nd season of quality community theatre! We think everyone will find something to love in our new season. We open with our unique tradition, the Original Play Festival. The fifteenth annual festival brings us four new plays, by OPF veteran playwrights Dick Hershberger, J. Jackson, Zena Zeller, and Anthony Michael Oliver. The rest of the year's lineup contains a cult rock musical, a teen holiday show, a heart warming family musical, a classic American drama, and a musical with an entire cast of performers age 18 and under.
"The Rocky Horror Show" is our fall offering, with a live rock and roll band and sweet transvestites from outer space. December brings Aloha Teen Theatre back to the mainstage with Disney's sensational phenomenon, "High School Musical." Spring is snowbird time, and we are offering the Tony award winning Broadway musical "Big River," the melding of two brilliant artists, Roger Miller and Mark Twain. Another American classic, Harper Lee's "To Kill a Mockingbird," will be our late spring offering, in a stirring adaptation by Christopher Sergel. "Alice in Wonderland, Jr." closes out our season. This whimsical musical is based on the Disney movie and the works of Lewis Carroll, with a cast consisting entirely of young people of our community.
Box office receipts only cover a portion of the funds needed to produce live theatrical performances for the West Hawaii Community. Without the support of West Hawaii businesses and individuals, we could not continue to bring you the quality and quantity of live theatre you have come to expect from us.
If you'd like to support us in other ways, such as a tax deductible donation, your name will appear on the donor list on the back of every program. There are nine categories, the top five being Season Sponsor 25,000+; Seraphim 10,000+; Angel 5,000+; Producer 1,000+; and Director 500+. For a more tailored sponsorship please contact Sam or Jerry at APAC 322-9924.
Mahalo for considering this opportunity!

Original Play Festival XV: August 13-16, 2008
Staged readings of brand new plays, submitted from all over the country and peer reviewed by local community members. The best of the bunch are chosen to be presented as staged readings on the Aloha Theatre stage.
Richard O'Brien's The Rocky Horror Show: Oct 17-Nov 1, 2008 A legendary APAC favorite is back! The cult classic comes alive again, featuring a live rock and roll band, that sweet transvestite Frank-n-Furter, his cross dressing alien minions, and the innocent Brad and Janet. Join them and the rest of the quirky gang for outrageous sci-fi musical comedy mayhem, as we all do the "Time Warp" again!
Disney's High School Musical: Dec 12-20, 2008
The stage adaptation of the hit Disney film, centered around a group of energetic teens and their quest to win the Big Game and put on a show. Set at East High in an unspecified city, this fast paced show is not just for kids; it has great heart, warm humor, hip and tuneful contemporary music, and an underlying message. The jocks, the brainiacs, and the theatre geeks learn that we're all in this together in this unique modern theatrical phenomenon. Two additional songs were written especially for the stage version, which will be a project of APAC's Aloha Teen Theatre.

Big River: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn: Feb 20-Mar 14, 2009
The brilliant work of American literary genius Mark Twain springs to glorious life on stage in this moving musical adaptation of the Huck Finn story, with music by Roger "King of the Road" Miller and book by William Hauptman. Winner of 9 Drama Desk Awards and 8 Tonys in 1985, including Best Musical, Best Original Score, and Best Book. Featuring a large volunteer cast of all ages and colors and a live professional orchestra, Big River is sure to tickle your funny bone and touch your heart.
To Kill a Mockingbird: May 5-23, 2009
Harper Lee's gripping, 1961 Pulitzer Prize winning novel is still number one on the list of books read most often by U.S. high school students. Christopher Sergel has adapted it for the stage in a concise, compassionate, deeply moving script. The story of childhood in a sleepy Southern town and the crisis of conscience that rocked it, this intelligent play takes us to the roots of human behavior--to innocence and experience, kindness and cruelty, love and hatred, humor and pathos. An unforgettable theatre experience.
Alice in Wonderland Jr.: Jun 19-28, 2009
Based on the iconic 1951 Disney film and the works of Lewis Carroll, this musical version of the timeless tale of Alice and her adventures on the other side of the looking glass will enchant you all over again. Performed by a cast all under the age of 18, this "kid-powered" show will take you down the rabbit hole for an adventure you won't soon forget!

Volunteer Positions
Acting - This is the part of theatre everybody knows. The stage actor. Often requires dancing and singing for musicals as well.
Box Office - This can include night of the event work, manager, or in your home ticket pre sales.
Costumes - Often we need a person in charge, a shopper, and a seamstress.
Directors & Designers—Choreography, guest director, technical director, music director, props, set and light designers. These are some of the areas we care looking for more talent. If you have had some experience in these, please let us know.
Graphic Design - We often need someone to design graphics for a show and do layout for posters, banners, t-shirts and buttons.
Event Organizer - We have several events that happen for each show. A fundraiser, a opening night reception, and a cast party. You can choose one or all three.
General Office - This would include making phone calls periodically. Helping fold, sticker, and send mailers; and other various office activities. Help maintain website.
Hair/Make-up - We need designers as well as people to administer makeup.
Light and Sound operators - These people are in the technical booth and run the lights and sound. Experience is helpful but not required with enough training. Time commitment is limited to the run of the show and a few weeks before.
Manual Labor - In this area we have set load in and strike. There is also using tools to construct the set. Painters come in after the set is built to apply the finishing touches.
Producer / Publicity - This requires mostly delegation and coordination. Strong organization is important. You are in charge of marketing a show. Guidelines are setup for you, experience not required.
Stage Crew - You work back stage during the run of the show and a few weeks prior. You move things on stage around between scenes.
Usher - Nights of shows only. You are expected to professionally help people find their seats as well as sell concessions.
