"The Rocky Horror Show" is cast again! Aloha Performing Arts Company is reviving Richard O'Brien's cult rock musical, and the new cast is currently in rehearsal at the Aloha Theatre, where the show will be presented Thursdays through Sundays October 17 through November 1, featuring a live onstage rock and roll band. Five performers are returning to reprise the roles they played in the show in 2006: Chris Bellah is the Sweet Transvestite himself, Dr. Frank N. Furter; Sue Boyum is the mysterious domestic servant Magenta; Mark Pollard portrays the hunchback handyman Riff Raff; Sam Valenti is the nerdy hero Brad Majors; and David A. Payne plays the suave narrator of the piece.
Sara Beery, who played a Phantom in the previous production, is the tap dancing castle groupie Columbia this time around. Newcomers to the cast include Danielle White as Janet, the innocent ingenue, Caesar Goosen as Frank's hunky creation Rocky, Miguel Montez as Frank's ill fated former lover Eddie, and Jeff Naumann as the inquisitive science teacher Dr. Scott. Also new to the cast are Becca Beaver, Brad Klipper, Tiffany Kutsunai, Rachel Leonard, Lee Vinson, and Tyler Wood, as a chorus of Phantoms, who serve Frank and haunt his castle. Jerry Tracy is director, Randy Ressler is music director, Dick Gray is choral director, Lee Vinson is choreographer, and Robin O'Hara is assistant director. Producers are David A. Payne and Vivian Chang.
"The Rocky Horror Show" will open Friday, October 17, and play through Saturday, November 1, with all shows at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $18 and $15 and are available by phone at 322-1648, online at www.apachawaii.org, or at the box office beginning at 6:30 each performance evening. Halloween night, Friday, October 31, is a special performance including a party and costume contest, with all seats at $30. Audience participation is encouraged; in fact, a special audience participation kit will be offered at the box office for $5.00. To insure performer safety and manageable theatre cleanup, outside props will not be allowed. The show features strong sexual content, crude language, homoerotic innuendo, and partial nudity, and is therefore recommended for mature audiences. For more information, call the APAC office at 322-9924.
