Aloha Performing Arts Company will offer "Sleepy Hollow," a fall break production workshop for 8-12 year olds October 6 through 11, with a free public performance at the Aloha Theatre at 2:30 p.m. Saturday October 11. Brian Weaver will direct this workshop, and will be assisted by members of the Aloha Teen Theatre. Theatre goers may remember Brian for his portrayal of Tommy in APAC's "Annie Get Your Gun" last season. In addition to being a performer, he is an educator, author, team coach, doctoral candidate, homemaker, and father of a nine year old son. Brian holds a Master's degree in education from the University of Denver and has considerable experience with gifted and talented learners.
"Sleepy Hollow," a children's play based on Washington Irving's classic "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," is appropriately spooky, and features his famous characters, including the bumbling, awkward teacher Ichabod Crane, Ichabod's rival, Brom Bones, the flirtatious Katrina, and many more. Each student is guaranteed a role, and will also assist with technical preparations, such as costumes, props, sets, and special effects.
The workshop will meet each day, 10:00 a.m until 4:00 p.m. at the Aloha Theatre. Tuition, which includes all materials required, is $175 per student, and scholarships are available. Early dropoff at 8:00 a.m. may be offered for an additional fee, if there is sufficient demand. Students will need to bring a lunch, and a mid-afternoon snack will be provided. This workshop offers over thirty hours of instruction in the various aspects of play production, with a professional artist/educator as the leader. Enrollment is limited to 20 participants. Online registration is available on APAC's website, www.apachawaii.org. For more information, call 322-9924.
