Aloha Teen Theatre, a division of Aloha Performing Arts Company, has announced open auditions for "Disney's High School Musical." The auditions will be on October 27th and 28th, 2008 at the Aloha Theatre in Kainaliu, starting promptly at 6:30p.m. All ages are welcome to audition. The stage adaptation of the famous movie is centered around a group of energetic teens at East High School in an unspecified city. The jocks, the brainiacs, and the theatre geeks populate this fast paced show, which has great heart, warm humor, hip and tuneful contemporary music, and an underlying message.

The characters are: Troy Bolton, a popular high school student who is the basketball team's captain; Gabriella Montez, the shy new girl at school; Sharpay Evans, the school's "diva"; Ryan Evans, Sharpay's brother; Chad Danforth, Troy's best friend; Taylor McKessie, president of the science club and Gabriella's best friend; Kelsi Neilson, the composer of East high's upcoming musical; Jack Scott, East high's PA announcer; Ms. Darbus, the drama teacher who absolutely loves what she teaches; Coach Bolton, the team's basketball coach, also Troy's father; and several students, belonging to various cliques including skaters, studious types, athletes, and thespians.

Those auditioning will be expected to sing a few bars from "What I've Been Looking For," "When There Was Me and You," "Stick to the Status Quo," or "America The Beautiful." After that they will be taught a short dance in small groups. There will be lines at the auditions to choose from and to read aloud. Comfortable, modest clothing is recommended. Parent consent forms and audition packets will be available at the auditions and also are available online at www.apachawaii.org. Directions to the theatre are on this website as well.

"High School Musical," by David Simpatico and Bryan Louiselle, is based on the Disney Channel original move, directed by Peter Barsocchini. Caitie Johnson Underwood is the director and Katelyn Howard is the choreographer. Other positions are still being filled. The show will be performed for two weekends at the Aloha Theatre in Kainaliu, December 12th-21st. Rehearsals will begin November 3rd , and will be held Monday-Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoons. A tentative rehearsal schedule will be posted at auditions and those auditioning will be asked to list any rehearsal conflicts so please bring your calendars. Not all cast members will be required at all rehearsals; frequency of rehearsals and specific time commitment varies with each role. For more information, call the APAC office at 322-9924.
